Teen/Adult Beginning Tap

Mondays 5:30-6:30pm OR Thursdays 9:00-10:00am

Have you always wanted to learn to tap dance? Or, did you learn to tap dance when you were younger and want to get back to it?  This class is perfect for you! STL Rhythm Collaborative instructors will introduce the basics of tap dance in a safe and supportive environment; focusing on building vocabulary, improving balance and coordination, and enhancing musicality.  

16 week session begins Monday, February 5, 2024.

 

Teen/Adult Intermediate Tap

Mondays 6:30-7:30pm 

Strengthen balance, stability, and footwork while honing tap dance skills in a comfortable, fun environment. Class exercises and combinations, led by STL Rhythm Collaborative instructors, will focus on strengthening musicality while building both your tap dance and music vocabulary. This level is recommended for students with at least 5+ years of previous tap dance training.

16 week session begins Monday, February 5, 2024.

 

Teen/Adult Intermediate/Advanced Tap

Mondays 7:30-8:30pm

Recommended for students with at least 7 or more years of previous tap dance training, STL Rhythm Collaborative instructors will offer methods for improved speed, timing, musicality, and articulation of the foot/ankle. In addition to footwork and presentation, classwork will also include discussion of past and present tap dance artists/masters and the practice of their contributions to the form. 

16 week session begins Monday, February 5, 2024.

Session 1: June 17-July 14, 2024

Intro to Tap for Kids

Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm

Designed just for kids, ages 6 and up, this class will introduce the basics of tap dance in a fun, supportive atmosphere!  Led by STL Rhythm Collaborative instructors, students will learn introductory tap dance technique, music theory, and history.  Class exercises and combinations will improve balance, timing, strength, agility, and coordination.

4 week session begins Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

Tap 5,6,7

Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm

This high-level intermediate tap class for older kids and teens is the perfect way to sharpen your tap technique and musicality in preparation for the fall dance season!  Students will move through exercises designed to improve timing, strength, and balance while experimenting with varying tempos and rhythms. 

4 week session begins Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Advanced/Pro Tap

Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm

This fast-paced tap class is perfect for high level advanced tap dancers and professional tap performers with excellent technique. Students will work through exercises designed to maintain and improve endurance, timing, presentation, and exploration of rhythmic ideas through improvisation.  

4 week session begins Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

Tap Camp STL

June 18-20, 2024 9:00-12:00pm  OR  July 9-11, 2024 12:30-3:30pm

Tap dance with us! Students will take tap classes each day with the performers from our professional ensemble, moSTLy TAP.  Classes are filled with fun activities to build confidence in tap dance technique and performance skills.  In addition to expanding their tap dance vocabulary, students will improve balance, strength, and agility.  Activities will include introductions to music theory, tap dance history, improvisation, and the artists currently making an impact on the art of tap dance today. On the last day of camp, parents will be invited to join us for an informal showing, presented by Tap Camp STL students. 

Students will need tap shoes and comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. 

 

Two Levels to choose from:

Advanced-Beginning Tap Dancers:  Ages 6+

For dancers with at least 3 years of tap dancing experience

Intermediate Tap Dancers:  Ages 9+

For dancers with at least 5 years of tap dancing experience

Intermediate/Advanced Tap Class with Tommy Wasiuta

Sunday, May 19, 9:00-10:30am

$35 per student

Tommy will be joining us for 1 class only! 

Tommy Wasiuta, described as a "breath of dance freedom" (New York Times) is a tap dance performer, educator, and choreographer based in New York City. As a performer, Tommy has appeared with Dorrance Dance at 92NY’s 150th Anniversary Season, Michela Marino Lerman’s Love Movement (Joyce Theater), Luke Hickey (American Dance Festival, Little Island), Max Pollak (Composers Concordance), the Ulysses Owens Jr. Big Band (Jazz at Lincoln Center), and the inaugural Caribbean Music Festival in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As an educator, Tommy is on faculty for tap dance at Steps on Broadway and Beyond the Stars Dance Convention. He has been an instructor with Sarah Reich's Tap Music Project, Joffrey Ballet Tap Intensive, Swingin’ into Summer Tap Festival, and has been a guest at dance schools across the United States. As a choreographer, he has created work for the Detroi
t Tap Repertory, Reflections Dance Company, and has choreographed and performed the entirety of Morton Gould’s Tap Dance Concerto. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Tommy is a founding member of STL Rhythm Collaborative (STLRC) and continues to support the tap dance community in St. Louis. He is an alumnus of the Tap Program at the School at Jacob’s Pillow and the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Tommy received his early training from Anthony Russo and Tracy Davenport at Performing Arts Centre and by attending the St. Louis Tap Festival.

Tap for Teachers Only Workshop

Two Days:

Monday, August 5, 6:00-8:00pm AND Monday August 12, 6:00-8:00pm

$190 per student

Tap for Teachers Only is a 2-day workshop perfect for those that teach beginning to advanced levels of tap for ages 6-adult.  

We'll be dancing together, working through a variety of exercises for various levels of tap dance and discussing how to use them to share principles of control, floor connection, use of the arms/upper body, weight shift & balance, improvisation and more!  We'll also discuss and practice preferred practices for introducing steps like pullbacks, wings, and even basic steps like shuffles.  Bring questions and challenges.  Let's work through it together! Each participant will receive resources to inspire his/her classwork.
